Canada’s unions mark Labour Day with a call
August, 2017 - Canada’s unions are marking Labour Day with the launch of a campaign calling for prescription drug coverage for all Canadians. In the Fraser Valley, workers, unions and community leaders will gather at Mill Lake Park on Monday September 4, 2017.
What: Labour Day Picnic
Where: Mill Lake Park, Abbotsford (Bevan Road entrance)
When: September 4th 10am-2pm
Who: FREE family event – everyone welcome!
“Canada’s unions have fought hard to win health insurance coverage for our members,” said DJ Pohl, President of the Fraser Valley Labour Council. “But we’re not stopping there.”
3.5 million Canadians can’t afford to fill their prescriptions, Pohl added. Many are splitting their pills or skipping days to stretch the prescriptions they do fill, she said.
“Nobody should be forced to choose between paying for groceries and paying for the medication they need,” said Pohl “That’s why we’re working to win a universal prescription drug plan that covers all Canadians regardless of their income, age or where they live.”
The campaign website, www.aplanforeveryone.ca, launches on Labour Day.
