January 2015 FVLC meeting featuring presentation on upcoming Transit Referendum
The Fraser Valley Labour Council will be hosting a short presentation regarding the upcoming Transit Referendum at the January 2015 meeting and encourages delegates to attend to listen to the detail behind the plan.
Ballots for the vote will be sent in March and and voting continues through until the end of May. Residents of Metro Vancouver will be voting on this binding plebiscite on how to fund and expand transit and transportation in the region.
As mandated by the provincial government, the Mayors Council has developed a detailed, affordable plan to address the rapidly growing traffic congestion, increasing air pollution and transit and transportation needs.
Recognizing the benefits of improving the transit and transportation network, and the dire consequences in failing to do so, the BC Federation of Labour convention unanimously passed a resolution to build strong and public support for a vote in favour of the plan. In addition the Federation Officers voted to support the yes side and join Better Transit + Transportation Coalition.
The January 2015 meeting will also feature elections for table officers for the Council as well as Executive Members.
When: Wednesday, January 21, 2015, starting at 7:00 pm
